Consequences. The consequence of the Birmingham campaign:
The city of Birmingham was desegregated and most schools became integrated and blacks were allowed to work as shopping clerks and could start to move up the earning ladder. There was a down side to the campaign, over 2000 children ages 6 to 16 were arrested because of rioting (May 2, 1963). Many blacks were put in jail and the KKK were out in force supported by the racist white population. Black churches were burnt, blown up and ripped apart by the KKK and the racist population in Birmingham, as the white people had retaliated with force, the blacks simply overwhelmed them with shear spirit, determination and courage. But still today there are racist people in Alabama, they have been taught and seen racial discrimination, which automatically breeds them into racist culture. People in the united states are still bickering in and around racism, flying the confederate flag in southern states and verbally abusing the minority races. |
